In the United States an estimated 1 in 3 of all women will have at least one abortion by the time they are 45 years old. Right here in Houston there are 30 listed abortion clinics that have been doing business for over 20 years.  Our great city is now the home to the largest Planned Parenthood facility in the hemisphere, some say the world. Accessibility to these services is more available than ever. It follows that the probability for trauma and grief is also greater.No matter what brought on the pregnancy loss, women and men are hurting after this life changing event. I have personally been through such a loss. The trauma and grief created agony and suffering until I was fortunate enough to find help in another city. Through the Grace of God, I was made aware of a safe and gentle place to go for healing; it was in Corpus Christi, Texas. There, they followed the Rachel's Vineyard Retreat Program™, where I experienced God's Mercy and the ability to forgive myself. It was a profound and life changing event for me. The need is tremendous here and we need your help. Gulf Coast Mercies Inc., a ministry newly based in Houston, is poised to help heal the trauma of abortion and miscarriage - one weekend at a time. Using the Rachel's Vineyard Retreat Program™ we have the ability to promote and encourage the necessary healing processes. To begin the healing of damaged souls we have formed a wonderful and caring team comprised of Clergy, Counselors and Laity working together to offer a response with the latest trauma theory integrated with an interfaith approach. Retreats are now scheduled and you can register through this site. You may make your donations to us online through any "Network for Good" online giving system, one of which is GuideStar, a notable source for donors and nonprofits. We are also working hard to bring an educational and training conference to the Houston area. You are invited to volunteer to be a part of our team. On our wish list is gift cards for Hobby Lobby, Office Depot and HEB grocery stores. Please join us. Together we will start a healing movement no one has ever seen before.
